Senior Pastor

Jeff La Borg - Dr. La Borg married Kristi Littlefield in June of 1991. She is a native of Kentucky and a trained Bible teacher for Precept Ministries. They have two children, Bethanee Lee, born 4/4/94 and Bradlee Thomas, born 10/3/95.

In addition to holding two support staff positions, Dr. La Borg has led three Southern Baptist Churches to record growth in Worship, Sunday school and evangelism. He served as senior pastor of Sharon Baptist Church in Savannah, Tennessee from October of 1993 until May of 2005. Under Pastor Jeff's leadership, Sharon Baptist Church experienced quadruple growth in attendance, multiple building programs, land acquisitions, and led the Shiloh Baptist Association in baptisms 5 consecutive years. Among his most treasured accomplishments as pastor of Sharon Baptist was the launching of the Intercessory Prayer Ministry and the founding of the K.I.D.S Preschool and Savannah Christian Academy. In May of 2005 Pastor Jeff was called as Senior Pastor of College Heights Baptist Church in Gallatin, Tennessee. Under his leadership College Heights Baptist Church experienced a powerful move of God that resulted in attendance growing from 400 to 1000. CHBC was ranked 6th of 3,000 Tennessee Baptist Churches and in the top 100 of 40,000 Southern Baptist Churches in the nation for evangelism and baptisms. In July of 2007 he was called to be the Senior Pastor of Second Baptist Church. Pastor Jeff has been blessed to preach in the Tennessee, Kentucky, and Louisiana State Evangelism Conferences and has preached revivals and conferences in 12 states, and the nations of Malawi Africa, Ghana Africa, and Costa Rica.

Dr. La Borg is a Cum Laude graduate of Liberty University and Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary with a Masters Degree in Leadership. He has done post-graduate studies at Southern Seminary and is currently preparing to earn a Doctorate of Pastoral Leadership at TTU in Chattanooga, TN. He is also the recipient of a Doctorate of Divinity from Immanuel Baptist Theological Seminary in Atlanta Georgia.

Minister of Music and Administration

Gary Morton - Gary joined our staff on June 1, 1988. He is from Stone Mountain, Georgia, and has been a Music Minister since the age of 16. His passion is leading people into the presence of Almighty God to worship Him through music. He loves his family, and is committed to spending quality time with them. As well as family time, Gary considers a great day to be riding the four-wheeler and/or sitting in a deer stand. He and his wife Jan have two sons and a daughter-in-law. Jan is actively involved in the ministries here at Second by leading the Women's Ministries, singing and teaching Bible study. Their oldest son Jeremy and his wife Carrie live in Perry, Georgia, where he is Pastor of Cross Point Baptist Church. Jonathan, 21, is a student, and leads the Youth Praise Band at Second.

He will tell you that the Music Ministry of Second Baptist Church is a ministry of Praise and Worship. It exists for the express purpose of Exalting the Savior, Edifying the Saints, and Evangelizing the Sinner. Our method is music, our message is Jesus, and our motivation is eternity.

Minister of Youth

Mike Dorough - Rev. Mike Dorough is a native of Cordele, GA and a graduate of Crisp County High School. He graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens where he was a member of the UGA Concert Band. In 1986, he was selected to participate in the Governor's Intern Program and served in the State Capitol during the Georgia General Assembly. He received his Masters degree from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, VA. Prince Avenue Baptist Church in Athens, GA licensed him to the Gospel Ministry in 1990. After serving almost seven years as a Youth Pastor in Virginia, he returned to his home state and began serving here at Second Baptist on December 1, 1996. He has led mission trips to Russia, Germany, and Brazil in addition to mission trips throughout the eastern United States. He married Julie Widdowson at First Baptist of Jacksonville, FL in June 1988. They have two children, John Michael (1993) and Holly (1995).

Minister of Instrumental Music

Jeff Cleghorn - Rev. Jeff Cleghorn is a native of Warner Robins, Georgia, having attended Second Baptist Church his entire life. He graduated from Warner Robins Christian Academy in 1988, and briefly attended Macon State College. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, in 1993; and a Master of Arts in Church Ministries degree from Luther Rice Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2005. He began his tenure at Second Baptist Church in May, 1988, as church organist. Licensed to the Gospel Ministry by Second Baptist in November, 1991, he was called as full-time Assistant Minister of Music in June, 1994. His title was later changed to Minister of Instrumental Music. He was ordained by Second Baptist in February, 1998. His responsibilities include directing the Church Orchestra, serving as administrator for the Conservatory of Music, and assisting the Minister of Music in day-to-day operations of the Music Ministry. In addition to his ministry at Second Baptist, Jeff also travels with his family, performing Southern Gospel music concerts as The Cleghorns. Jeff also serves as crusade pianist for several Bailey Smith Real Evangelism Crusades across the country each year, and has played for Phil Waldrep Celebrators' Conferences as well. He married the former Emily Smith on November 4, 2006.

Minister of Pastoral Care & Senior Adults

Mike Slade - Rev. Mike Slade is a native of Hawkinsville, Georgia. He graduated from Hawkinsville High School and attended Middle Georgia College and Georgia College. He was licensed and ordained by Second Baptist Church and called as Ministerial Associate in 1997. He now serves as the Minister of Pastoral Care & Senior Adults. He and his wife, Susan, have two children. Their son, Dr. Lance Slade, and his wife, Toni, have one child, Spencer, and live in Warner Robins. Dr. Slade practices medicine in Macon with Primary Pediatrics. Toni is a stay at home mother and a Christian recording artist. Bro. Mike and Mrs. Susan’s daughter, Lori Lyons, and her husband, Ryan, live in Corydon, Indiana. Ryan pastors First Baptist Church Corydon and attends Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Lori is a registered nurse working in Louisville, Kentucky, and is currently working on her Masters degree as a Nurse Practitioner.

Minister of Adult Education

Jimmy Moneypenny - Rev. James "Jimmy" Moneypenny, Minister of Adult Education, graduated from Warner Robins High School in 1986. He attended Mercer University on a baseball scholarship, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary History Education in 1990. From 1990-2001, he taught and coached at Tabor Middle School here in Houston County and was named 1998 Teacher of the Year. He was also recognized by "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" in 1998, 1999, and 2000. He has been a member of Second Baptist Church since 1990, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. He was called as Minister of Education and Evangelism in June, 2001, and licensed to the Gospel Ministry by Second Baptist Church in January, 2002. He is working toward a Masters of Administration degree from Georgia College and State University . He is married to the former Joy Stewart of Warner Robins and has two children, Lindsay and Katy.
